4.Assessment:
Early Years and Year 1
Students applying for these year groups will need to attend a ‘School Readiness Session’ in April, May and June. Students will be observed by staff while exploring the classroom, looking at their ability to socialise with others, their ability to follow instructions, fine and gross motor skills along with language and communication development. If the student is not able to access these activities, due to a lack of development, behavior issues or poses a risk to safety of themselves or other students then they will need to attend an “Inclusion meeting” where the student observation will be discussed, along with the possible request for external testing and or additional adult support.
All children must be fully toilet trained.
If the parent has notified on the application that their child has learning needs, then the ‘Inclusion Student’ process will be followed (see below).
Year 2 & Year 3
Students applying for these year groups will need to attend an assessment session. Students will be observed by staff looking at their ability to socialise with others, their ability to following instructions, while also completing a phonics screening and maths assessment. If the student achieves a score of below 50% in attained in the assessments or the child is not able to access these activities, due to a lack of development, behaviour issues or poses a risk to safety of themselves or other students then they will need to attend an ‘Inclusion meeting’ where the student observation will be discussed, along with the possible request for external testing and or additional adult support.
If the parent has notified on the application that their child has learning needs, then the ‘Inclusion Student’ process will be followed (see below).
Year 4 to Year 11
Students applying for these year groups will need to sit a CAT 4 assessment. If the student is joining from a school in Dubai, the parents must provide a CAT 4 report for the current academic year along with any GL Progress Tests from the previous year (age group applicable).
After sitting the CAT 4 or having the report reviewed from the current school, this needs to be reviewed by a member of the relevant School SLT .This decision will be either yes, due to scoring an average SAS of 86 or above on average, if the score is below this the application is rejected.
If a parent has indicated the child has a learning need, the CAT 4 assessment will not be sat, instead an Inclusion meeting will be arranged.
Years 12 & 13
Students applying for Years 12 or 13 would require a meeting (face to face or Zoom) with the DP co-ordinator, prior to a decision being taken.
Year 12 – would need to provide a report card along with any external examinations sat at the end of Year 11 (MYP eAssessments, GCSE etc.). If the student has achieved the grades to allow 3 HL subjects to be taken (eg 3 scores at level 5 on MYP in the subjects to be taken at DP or 3 ‘B Grades’ at GCSE/ IGCSE in the subjects to be taken and we can offer), they will be offered a place on the Diploma Programme, if not then Courses will be offered as an alternative. If the courses option is rejected by the family, then the offer of a place will be declined.
Year 13 – would need to be attending an IB school, studying the Diploma programme. They must provide a report card and have the same subject options as are currently available at EISM. If the student was not achieving a passing grade in DP based on the report card, then a place will be declined. If the student is already studying Courses and have the same subject options as are currently available at EISM, then a place will be offered.
Upon approval the student’s completed application is forwarded to the KHDA for final approval.
Overseas Students
Overseas student acceptance will be based on report cards, along with any CAT 4 or GL Progress Test reports or other external assessments that might be available. If there are any concerns, an interview may be scheduled, if there are further concerns, a CAT 4 assessment should be arranged to take place at the current school. The same acceptance/ rejection processes will then be used as outlined above.
Inclusion Students
If a family has ‘declared’ their child as a Student of Determination, they would be interviewed by the Inclusion Team, prior to a decision being taken.
If the school is unable to meet the needs of the student then the application will be rejected and the relevant KHDA paperwork will be completed and submitted.
